SUBARU’S XV Concept will preview the second-generation version of its high-riding crossover hatch.
The shady image of the XV Concept’s front three-quarter (main pic) shows a chunky wheel arch, sharp rectangular headlights and SUV-like paneling on the front bumper.
While the concept is yet to be seen, GoAuto understands that it will carry a similar look to the recent Impreza hatch and sedan concept – revealed at last year’s Tokyo and Los Angeles motor shows respectively – albeit with a jacked-up ride.
The XV and Impreza will continue to share a platform and many mechanical elements but the production version of the crossover will be designed to appeal to more compact-SUV buyers, while the Impreza goes after car fans.
A production-ready version of the Impreza concept will make its debut next month at the New York motor show.
A new XV will likely continue Subaru’s all-wheel-drive-only policy (except the BRZ), but expect improvements to ride and handling, connectivity and more of Subaru’s EyeSight active safety suite as it seeks to recapture ground taken by new versions of the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3, as well as the Suzuki Vitara and Renault Captur.
AUDI has lifted the covers off a faster, more powerful version of its RS Q3 which will make its public debut in Geneva.
The RS Q3 ‘performance’ variant holds a tweaked version of Audi’s renowned 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, tuned to deliver 270kW (3622hp) of power and 465Nm of torque between 1625 and 5500rpm.
This represents a boost of 20kW/15Nm over the regular RS Q3 that was facelifted mid-last year.
The extra muscle has made for a quicker 0-100km/h sprint time, with the crossover completing the distance in 4.4 seconds, a 0.4s drop over the regular version, before hitting a top speed of 270km/h.
This 0-100km dash time beats that of the rival Mercedes-AMG GLA45 that uses a 265kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine and covers the same ground in 4.8s.
Under the bonnet of the RS3 Sportback, the Audi five-pot does 0-100km/h in 4.3s.
The RS Q3 performance uses Audi’s S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and drives all four wheels via the quattro all-wheel drive system held together with suspension tuned for sport driving.
It also gets red or black brake callipers featuring the RS logo and RS-specific five-spoke 20-inch wheels. An exclusive body colour – Ascari blue – is also available.
Inside, the sports seats feature a combination of black and blue colours, the dials have grey faces, white dials and red needles, and the RS sports leather steering wheel, gear selector gaiter, armrest and floor mats have contrasting blue stitching. An RS performance design package is a no-cost option.
MITSUBISHI will reveal an evolution of its ASX crossover and its Triton stablemate at the Geneva motor show.
The ASX was introduced six years ago and under the refresh, design study experiments appear in a single shady shot showing them wearing “mid-grey livery” with orange highlights on the wheels, bumpers, door mirrors and side steps.
It is not known if the concepts showcase anything other than simply aesthetic tweaks, or if they will form the basis of special edition variants down the track.
In addition to the Triton and ASX showcars that target “urban adventurers”, Mitsubishi will also wheel out the eX Concept for a second public appearance, following its debut at the Tokyo motor show last year.
The facelifted ASX carries Mitsubishi’s latest design language, dubbed Dynamic Shield and has already launched in the United States but is yet to roll out in other markets including Europe and the United Kingdom.
SKODA has launched the teaser campaign for its long-awaited new SUV by releasing three sketches that preview the look of the of the company’s “SUV portfolio”.
The show car, dubbed VisionS, will be uncovered at next month’s Geneva motor show and gives a glimpse at the design language of future Skoda SUVs.
While more recently Skoda has concentrated on refreshing and expanding its passenger car line-up, the next phase of its expansion plan involves growing its SUV line-up beyond the Yeti crossover.
The VisionS – the ‘S’ stands for SUV – is a design study but will likely end up as a production model and sit two segments above the Yeti as Skoda’s first large SUV.
It is expected to be built on the Volkswagen Group MQB modular platform and share its underpinnings with the production version of VW’s CrossBlue concept, that was revealed at the 2013 Detroit motor show.
Some reports have suggested that powertrains will be taken from the Superb line-up – a range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engines, while a four-wheel drive system is also expected to be offered on some variants.
Skoda is still yet to announce the name of its production model, but it is widely believed it will take the Kodiak moniker.
The VisionS’ dimension place it firmly in the large SUV category along similarly sized offerings such as the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe.
Those models, as well as the Nissan Pathfinder and new Mazda CX-9 will be key rivals for the Skoda SUV.
Inside, the big SUV has three rows ensuring seating for six and Skoda says it has recreated its “classic large interior that has made the brand popular”.
