Movistar Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo completed Day Two of MotoGP Winter Test I at Sepang Circuit as the fastest after being the only rider to dip below the 2 minutes barrier, with double MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez second fastest followed by Italian Andrea Dovizioso of Ducati Corse in third.
After finishing a close third behind Marquez and Italian Valentino Rossi on the opening day, the Spaniard dominated the second day’s session. Lorenzo dipped under the 2-minute barrier after the first of the eight hours of track time, remaining ahead till the end of the day. German rider Stefan Bradl remains the fastest Open Class rider on Day Two, a feat he has also accomplished on Day One.
“Very happy. The morning was fantastic. So long that I didn’t feel so great with so much good pace,” said Lorenzo. “It was not only the 1m 59.9 lap and the 2m 0.00. I could be in 2m 0 quite comfortably even in high temperatures.
“After lunch we tried many things. Different chassis. So we lost a little bit of concentration to keep the good pace. Also the track seemed a little more slippery and not many people improved. But in general the day was very good. I like a lot the new Yamaha. I think it is a very complete bike. We just need to improve the braking. If we can do that at the next test for sure we are going to be very prepared for Qatar.
“For the moment we don’t have an advantage, but I think we are in the level for trying to win races. This morning he had felt even better than during the 2013 season, when he won eight races and came within four-points of claiming a third premier-class crown. I won two races in 2014… [But] apart from Japan it was a difficult year for trying to win. In 2013 I won eight races, but to be honest even in 2013 I didn’t have the feeling I had this morning,” said the Spaniard.
