Refreshed Subaru XV launched, two variants available

Launch of all-new MY16 Subaru XV

The facelifted Subaru XV, the marque’s most popular model here, has been launched by Motor Image Malaysia; the exclusive distributor of the brand in Malaysia, with two variants available to give buyers a choice in terms of equipment; the 2.0i and the 2.0iP

While the previous model was only available in a sole variant, market research has shown that buyers preferred some variety, hence the introduction of an entry-level variant to complement the premium one, both of which will still be assembled locally at Tan Chong’s assembly facility in Segambut.

Enhancements are minor, with the exterior now sporting a new front bumper, new L-shaped LED positioning lights, a redesigned grille, an aluminium matte finish for the roof rails, arrow-shaped wing mirror indicators (premium variant) and a slight turbine-twist treatment for the 17-inch wheels that otherwise look identical to the pre-facelift variant. At the rear, clear LED taillights are the most outstanding improvement.

In the cabin, improvements are limited to a steering wheel that mimics the piece from the new Outback and orange interior stitching. The biggest difference between the two variants is the availability of the DVD navigation system, six-speaker sound system, reverse camera and Bluetooth connectivity only in the 2.0iP with the 2.0i making do with a regular double-DIN head unit.

Exclusive to the 2.0iP as well is keyless entry, push-start button, alloy pedals, power-adjustable seats, a monitor for the all-wheel drive system and a cargo bay cover.

The equipment that remains standard for both variants are cruise control, reverse sensors, paddle shifters and fog lights; front and rear.

Mechanically, the new XV is identical to the outgoing version. The FB-series 2.0-litre horizontally-opposed engine produces 148hp and 196Nm of torque that is sent to all four wheels via Subaru’s iconic Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive via a CVT with six virtual ratios.

Safety equipment remains unchanged with dual front airbags and a knee airbag for the driver, ABS, EBD, BA, stability control, ISOFIX anchorage points and reinforcement beams in the doors.

Pricing for the base 2.0i is RM132,725 while the 2.0iP will set you back RM137,075. Both prices are inclusive of insurance and come with a five year or 100,000km warranty as well as three years of free scheduled servicing.
