Power to suprise – 4th Gen KIA Sportage wins iF Design Awards

The ‘Power to surprise’ has done it again. The fourth-generation Kia Sportage which is due to be launched in Malaysia soon has already won the prestigious iF Design Awards, making it the second car in the KIA stable to be named best in design. The other KIA model to take the award is the Optima. This marks the seventh year that KIA has won the coveted prize.

Both cars won in the iF Design’s ‘Product’ category which is evaluated by their finish, innovation, impact on the environment and safety.

“We are delighted to accept these awards for the all-new Kia Sportage and Optima as proof of our design teams’ consistent efforts to develop prize-winning designs. The new Sportage features a distinctive new face, and the elegant Optima sedan highlights other, different facets of Kia’s design. These are important flagship models for us, clearly demonstrating the design-led transformation of the Kia model range in recent years.” adds Steffen Cost, Managing Director (COO) of Kia Motors Deutschland.

The iF Design Award
Since 1953, the annual iF Design Award has grown into one of the world’s most important prizes for design excellence. Its origins in the ‘Formgerechte Industrieerzeugnisse’ (Good Industrial Design) product shows initiated by Germany’s Hannover Messe, is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious design competitions.

Presented across seven disciplines, companies from 53 countries participated this year in the iF Design Awards, submitting a total of 5,295 new designs. Kia’s latest models emerge tops in the ‘Automobiles/Vehicles/Bikes’ category.

The all new sporty Sportage will carry a six-speed automatic gearbox driving the front wheels only in the 2.0-litre petrol Si and SLi models. Its diesel models (Si, SLi and Platinum) and the 2.4-litre GDI petrol in the Platinum range is powered by its on-demand AWD system.

The new Sportage Platinum will feature the Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS) which allows parrallel parking assist or 90-degree parking spaces by measuring the available space, controlling steering and offering input instructions on the LCD display guided by sensors.

Look out for these models in the NAZA Kia Malaysia showrooms soon.
