THE much-anticipated Bentley flagship sedan, the Mulsanne Speed, has made its world debut at this week’s 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Bentley has retained the 6.75-litre V8 engine from the Mulsanne but new injectors, a new combustion chamber and new spark plugs combined with updates to the variable valve timing and turbocharger boost power by 25hp to 530hp and 1100Nm of torque.
With the extra power and a recalibrated eight-speed gearbox, the Mulsanne Speed can sprint from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds – four-tenths quicker than the standard Mulsanne. That 310kph top speed is a handy 10kph higher, too.
The suspension now comes with a Sport mode, stiffening the air-sprung system. Bentley and Comfort modes are also available, while Custom allows drivers to mix and match engine, steering and suspension settings.
