The Triton VGT Adventure too friendly-looking for you? Check out this blacked-out special edition from Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the 200-unit only Triton Phantom – which drift princess and professional racing driver Leona Chin used to scare the living daylights out of potential customers in the over four million-hit video above.
On the outside, the Triton Phantom sports 17-inch matte black alloys and a matte black grille — a whole lot more sinister than the chrome affair of the standard VGT Adventure — along with a matte black rear bumper, sports bar, and full truck bed cover.
At the front, the Triton Phantom also comes with a front bumper extender, DRL-equipped xenon HID headlamps and Phantom body stickers and decals.
The only change in the interior is the provision of black leather seats with Phantom lettering.
Priced at RM115,680.76 OTR without insurance, the Triton Phantom comes with 2 Years free maintenance with RM2,000 cash rebates or free labour with RM4,000 cash rebates. The Triton Phantom also comes with a factory warranty of three years or the first 100,000 km.
Mechanically, the Triton Phantom is unchanged from the Triton VGT Adventure, packing Mitsubishi’s 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT). The DOHC 16-valve turbodiesel engine with a common-rail system produces 178PS of power at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.
A five-speed automatic puts power down to the rear through an Easy Select 4WD system, controlled through a rotary selector knob on the centre console.
Imported as a CBU vehicle from Thailand, the all-new Triton is also available in five other variants for the Malaysian market at the following prices (without insurance, GST inclusive for private registration):
