HONDA’S Indonesian subsidiary, PT Astra Honda Motor (AHJ), could export its motorcycles overseas after expanding its production line, The Establishment Post reported.
The Karawang plant line in West Java was expanded to meet domestic demand for the brand’s sportsbikes.
“With additional manufacturing capacity, AHJ will provide good products with speed, affordability and low carbon emissions and fulfill the demand in the sports bike market where further growth is expected,” Honda said.
The new production line could increase AHM’s annual production of 500,000 units to 1.1 million units per annum.
AHJ’s marketing director Margono Tanuwijaya said that up to 50,000 units of motorcycles could be exported per year, in the first batch, to an unidentified neighbouring country.
“It will be done in the first semester of next year. We will export to one of the countries in Southeast Asia, and it will be our automatic motorcycle products,” he said.
Indonesia is the world’s third largest motorcycle market behind India and China.
