Best year yet for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia

2015 marks best ever month, quarter and year for the premium carmaker.

 

Everything indicated 2015 would be a stellar year for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) and an official announcement on Friday cemented it as the best ever year for the marque, having recorded their best ever month in June and quarter in Q2 as well.

MBM sold a total of 10,845 vehicles, a growth of 56 per cent over the 6,932 units of 2014 and the first time the company breached the five figure mark. The best-sellers were unsurprisingly the C-, E- and S-Class sedans, making up 74 per cent with 7,989 units sold.

“2015 produced many milestones for the Mercedes-Benz brand in Malaysia, both on the product and customer service fronts. Some of these included the launch of the Mercedes-Benz Dream Cars collection and the launch of the Hap Seng Star Kota Kinabalu showroom,” said Dr. Claus Weidner, president and chief executive officer of MBM.

Leading the charge was the E-Class range, spearheaded by the locally-assembled E300 BlueTEC Hybrid that accounted for 2,689 units of the 3,383 units of E-Class sold in total.

A close second was the new C-Class, accounting for 2,697 units. Completing the podium in third is the S400L Hybrid with 1,909 units. The unique market conditions here, courtesy of the National Automotive Policy, has resulted in one of, if not the highest, concentration of S400L Hybrids in the world.

On the compact side of things, the trio of the CLA-Class, A-Class and GLA-Class contributed a total of 2,811 units with each checking in at 959, 832 and 816 units respectively. The CLA Shooting Brake is expected to make its way here this year as well to complete the range of compact models on offer.

The last move in its mammoth model offensive was the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz Dream Cars that comprised performance models under the AMG banner. A total of 379 units of dream cars were sold last year.

A major factor in the marque’s success was its local-assembly capability. The Pekan production plant was not left out of the record setting play, producing 7,710 passenger vehicles in 2015; a landmark for the facility. Furthermore, a two-shift programme was successfully executed in April 2015 to keep up with demand.

“Mercedes-Benz Malaysia enters 2016 with a renewed commitment to focus on key customer touch points through our dealer network. With 28 appointed dealers, we have the largest network for a premium automotive manufacturer and we do not intend to stop here,” said Dr. Weidner.

Customer satisfaction is at an all time high, with 2015 achieving the best sales satisfaction index results in MBM’s history.

During the announcement, MBM also confirmed the price of the Mercedes-Benz CLS 250d at RM492,888.00.

Slotting in under the petrol-powered CLS400, the CLS250d is powered by a 2.1-litre inline-four turbodiesel, similar to the unit found in the E300 BlueTEC Hybrid. Without any electric assistance, the CLS250d pumps out 202hp and 500Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
