PERODUA has been going from strength to strength since it first launched the Kancil in 1994 and it looks like it will continue making waves with the launch of its new Alza Advanced Version.
Rated the most popular MPV in the market as well as the most affordable, Perodua cites the new Alza variant as part of its moving forward strategy.
"The launch is timely as for the last few months we have noticed an increased demand for our MPVs," Perodua's managing director, Datuk Aminar Rashid, told the press at the launch.
"Bookings have been high and now we have to concentrate on converting them to registrations,"
The new Alza Advanced replaces its outgoing variant and includes features such as a touch screen multi-media system, on-board navigation, reverse camera, leather seat covers and a PVC coil
Its multimedia system comes complete with apps such as its "Yellow Pages" app that will guide users to the location of any company registered with the listing service provider.
Another app will will program the navigation system to find the closest TM Wifi Hotspot.
The new Alza Advanced Version comes in three colours - Mystical Purple, Ebony Black and Ivory White - and sports an automatic transmission mated to a 1.5 DOHC petrol engine that churns out 101hp @ 6,000rpm and 136Nm 3,600rpm.
"We are proud to say that the on-the-road price for the new Alza Advanced Version is the same as its predecessor - which is RM69,503.50 for solid and RM70,003.50 for metallic," said Aminar.
Aminar was talking at Perodua's half year performance review. According to him Perodua is maintaining its 188,000 sales target this year despite the challenging industry environment.
In the first six months of this year, Perodua's sales has increased by 17% to 93,800 units if compared to the same period in 2011 which represents 31% of the total industry volume for the first half of this year.
Aminar did assert that 2011 sales was not a true comparison as the entire automotive industry was impacted by the lack of parts from Japan due to the 2011 tsunami.
"When compared with the 95,000 units sold in the same period in 2010 - which we benchmark ourselves against - our sales are down by 2%, mainly due to the New Guidelines of Responsible Lending introduced by Bank Negara Malaysia in January this year," he added.
"That being said, we are confident that we are able to meet our sales target of 188,000 units this year,"
According to Aminar, since the new guidelines were introduced, the rejection rate has on average increased by seven per cent to 27%, however Aminar added, the rejection figures have eased down to 24%.
Aminar added that Perodua has taken a pro-active stance and have been actively educating its customers on the new guidelines and assisting them to get the proper documentation for their loans to be speedily appraised.
"In this regard, I would like to thank the financial institutions for their cooperation and I hope they continue to extend their cooperation for the benefit of the entire automotive eco-system."
