Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) today announced that its Thai engine manufacturing subsidiary Siam Toyota Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (STM), will in early 2014 increase its annual production capacity from approximately 740,000 units to approximately 840,000 units.
The additional 100,000 units a year increase will come from the Corolla Altis ZR series engine. The engines will be exported to Vietnam and Taiwan, in addition to supplying domestic manufacturing of the Corolla Altis.
Approximately 14 billion Yen will be invested in STM to increase its current capacity, creating approximately 200 new jobs along the way.
Toyota did not specifically mention if this is related to the expected introduction of the next generation Corolla Altis.
The current 10th generation Corolla Altis was introduced in Malaysia in 2008, given a typical five to six year model life cycle for a passenger car, it is not too far fetched to expect its replacement model to come by 2014.
