Prius c overbooked by 10 Times over, 6 months waiting list in Japan.

When the Toyota Aqua, dubbed next decade compacy hybrid by Toyota, the company only expected to sell only 12,000 units a month in Japan. But as January came to a close and order data were tabulated at the company's sales and marketing office in Tokyo, total orders between Dec-26 to Jan-31 came out to 120,000 units. In other words, the Aqua was overshoot its target, and Toyota under-estimated the Aqua's market potential by 10 times! Even before the car was launched, pre-orders collected already totalled 60,000, which alone is already 5 times the Aqua's monthly target.

As a result of the huge backlog in orders, Toyota says that customers who place their orders now can only expect to receive the car around July.

The only source for the Aqua, also known as the Prius c in overseas markets, is Toyota's Iwate plant, whose monthly capacity is only 30,000 units. It will go on sale in the US around March while the Malaysian market launch is tentatively set to take place by end-February, although buyers can already place their orders based on the estimated price of RM 103,990.

If you want one fast, better put an order now. Expect a waiting period of 6 months or more. To know more about the Prius c, go here.
